Settlement areas, dispersal and migration

The Egyptian Vulture is the only migratory vulture in Europe. The adults spend almost half of the year in Africa. Soon after  the first flight, the juveniles undertake a long and dangerous journey to the wintering grounds. The next 3-4 years from their life, they spend far from their birth place flying over thousands of kilometers and looking for save feeding and roosting sites.

We still have not strong evidences where the Balkan population of Egyptian vultures is wintering. Therefore, we will try to follow some adults and juvenile vultures by satellite transmitters. In this way, we will get information where the tagged birds are in every single moment. We will improve our knowledge about the sites they are visiting:  sites for roosting, feeding, wintering, the migration flyway and the threats along their journeys.
