Electrocution

The Egyptian vultures quite often use electricity poles as resting or roosting sites – in their breeding territories, during migration and in the winter. This behaviour can have fatal consequences as some poles of the low-voltage (20кW) network in particular are extremely dangerous for the birds – when perching, or taking off they can be electrocuted. The unprotected poles are particularly dangerous for the young vultures. During the first days after leaving the nest they are still unconfident in the air, especially when perching or taking off, and they can crash in the cables or touch the leg of the pole. An efficient way of avoiding such incidents is by using special insulators.
