Poisoning

Poisoned food is among the main threats for the species survival. The variety of food sources makes the vultures particularly vulnerable to this threat. The vultures often search for food on dumpsites and thus put themselves in danger: there they consume poisoned or contaminated food. Another unresolved problem is the use of poisoned baits for predators. The rodenticides and insecticides used in agriculture poison rodents and insect which comprise a part of the diet of the white-plumed bird. The accumulation of poisonous substances in its body can prove fatal. The intensification of livestock breeding dictates an ever-growing need for antibiotics for the animals; their regular reception weakens the immune system of the vultures and can lead to their death.
