On August 15 started the autumn raptor migration census in Adana Province, southern Turkey and will continue until October 15.

Anyone can track the observed species and their numbers by tables in the Doğa Dernegi website, which are updated every day. Until now the observed adult Egyptian Vultures are 22, the immatures are 5 and the juveniles are 13.

The Egyptian Vulture is an endangered raptor that is widespread across southern Europe, Africa, and Asia. Birds from SE Europe migrate around the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and pilot work in 2013 identified suitable raptor migration monitoring stations to count Egyptian Vultures and other raptors in southern Turkey. In the article: “Identification of the best sites around the gulf of Iskenderun, Turkey, for monitoring the autumn migration of Egyptian Vultures Neophron percnopterus and other diurnal raptors” in Sandgrouse (OSME) are published the results from 2013.

In 2014, the first full fall migration census takes place near Sarimazi, Adana province, Turkey. This project is a collaboration between several BirdLife International partner organizations leaded by Doğa Derneği, and will offer spectacular views of mass migration (>100.000 raptors of >20 species, >100.000 storks and countless smaller migrants).

Among the observed species there are Imperial Eagle, Black kite, Merlin, Short-toed eagle, and many others. Until now the most numerous are the Honey Buzzards.
