Sudan “killer line” disconnected is one of the highlights from BirdLife international of 2013

The decommission and the replace of the “killer line” from Port Sudan to the Red Sea coast, which is estimated to have electrocuted hundreds and perhaps thousands of Endangered Egyptian Vultures is among the highlights from BirdLife International of 2013. This decisive action by the Sudanese government and power company officials follows years of work by BSPB (BirdLife in Bulgaria), and  UNDP/GEF Migratory Soaring Birds (MSB) project and its local NGO partner, the Sudanese Wildlife Society (SWS).

Other highlights from BirdLife International of 2013 are: Stopping the slaughter of falcons in India; Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita) fledge 148 chicks in the wild; protecting 60,000 ha of Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi) habitat in Patagonia; saving Panama Bay from destruction; helping one of the rarest birds on the planet- the Critically Endangered Tahiti Monarch (Pomarea nigra).
