During the period from 9th to 19th January 2013 the LIFE+  project „The Return of the Neophron“ experts will visit Africa with the mission to lead a training seminar  to research and protect the wintering populations of the globally threatened Egyptian vulture.Last year 9 birds were tagged with satellite transmitters in Bulgaria and Greece and showed us their migratorion route to the wintering places:  mostly Chad and Sudan. Beyond  these two key countries the seminar will also include some of their neighbours.
Eight participants from Ethiopia, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia will take part in the training. The event will be held in Ethiopia and will include theoretical and practical part. The main aim of the seminar is to build capacity among local caretakers, who will work with the species at the wintering places .
The training programme will continue in August.  Conservationist from African will visit Bulgaria where they would gain experience directly from the experts of the project „The Return of the Neophron“.
The realization of the training seminar is under the projects "Capacity Building to Support the Conservation of Migratory Egyptian Vultures (Neophron percnopterus) from the Western Palearctic on their Wintering Grounds in Ethiopia, Sudan and Chad" financed by UNEP and "The return of the Nephron“ financed by the European Commission's LIFE+ programme and the "A.G. Leventis“ Foundation.
