- Second Egyptian vultre was found dead in a month
The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds found another dead Egyptian vulture in just one month. Both birds have died in the Eastern Rhodopes.
It seems that the vulture had died of electrocution. The body was found near an electric pole. After his death, the vulture was torn by terrestrial predators.
Electorcution is a common cause of mortality amongst birds. The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) broadcasted news about a white stork with a transmitter put in Germany, who was electrocuted in Bulgaria in a few days.
Every year thousands of birds have been killed by electrocution. This is very embarrassing when it happens to endangered species such as the Egyptian vulture.
The BSPB is working to isolate the most dangerous electricity poles around the nests of globally threatened species and these on the migration roads.
