We celebrated the International vulture awareness day

04.09.2012

This Saturday, with wonderful weather and good spirits, we celebrated the International vulture awareness day. Bulgarian society for the protection of birds’ (BSPB) information center „Eastern Rhodopеs” opened gates for everybody who wants to know more about these incredible birds. Citizens and many guests of Madjarovo town visited the interactive exhibition and observed Egyptian and Griffon vultures from very close. The youngest took part in drawing competition (undisputedly won by all participants) and had a great time in the afternoon playing in the nature. Specially for the celebration Arda appeared in the sky. She is a young Egyptian vulture tagged this summer with a satellite transmitter. The future of this rare species depends on her destiny and the other juveniles from her generation.
In Ruse town we were visited not only by the ordinary visitors, but also by representative of the spiritual forces. Father Veselin was so deeply impressed by the unhappy destiny of the vultures that gave his blessings to the whole Balkan population!
In Plovdiv we had information stall in the Faculty of Biology of Plovdiv university „Paisii Hilendarski“. Short presentation showed BSPB’s efforts to protect these birds in the last 20 years.
In Sofia zoo BSPB volunteers and club “Skorec“ from Faculty of Biology in Sofia university „Kliment Ohridski“, distributed interesting materials for the vultures among the visitors and made more friends of the wild nature in Bulgaria.
The International vulture awareness day was celebrated by different organizations in Bulgaria. They all had one and the same aim - to attract society’s attention to the living nature treasures of Bulgaria and the threats leading to their extinction.
