- International vulture awareness day. Welcome in Madjarovo – day of open gates!
On 1-st of September, this year, together with the Autumn is coming the International Vulture Awareness Day. This is one of these days when we can take a break from the intensive life and give us the opportunity to look back at the nature. That is why we invite you to visit the „vulture center“ in Madjarovo town, where you can learn more about this magnificent birds and will enjoy the unique nature of the Eastern Rhodopes. This day you can see the interactive exhibition, artificial feeding, presentations in which we shall tell you about „our“ birds, education games for children and, of course, can see wild vultures in the sky.
Information materials and presentations will be given in the faculty of Biology of Plovdiv university. Sofia zoo, BSPB and volunteers from „Skorec“ club (BF SofiaUniversity „Kliment Ohridski“) will tell to all visitors about the four different vulture species that could be seen in Bulgaria.
Unfortunately many people do not have even a basic notion about vultures and do not bear warm feelings about them (like in opposite to big cats, whales or Great panda). Often this understanding is coming from wrong lessons in the past, incorrect association and prejudices. Ecologists use this day to remind us how important this birds are for the equilibrium in the nature, to tell us for their joyless destiny and remarkable intellection. In the past, together with their vast spread, the vultures were respected and cherished from all nations. Today our society „don‘t have time“ for the biodiversity.
The days dedicated to the planet, seas and biodiversity are our way to remind to ourselves that we are part of this biosphere too.
