  • The guide for illegal trade of endangered species is already in help of the customs officers in Greece

In 2014-2015 as part of the LIFE+ project to secure the survival of the Egyptian vulture a series of meetings were held with border control personnel stationed in Thrace, western Greece and Attica. These meetings aimed to inform them regarding trafficking and trading of wild species and/or their parts, a practice that poses a significant threat to the planet’s fauna, including the Egyptian Vulture. During these meetings arose the need for a guide that would help non-experts to identify the bird species and to certify the validity of the incoming and outgoing shipments.

The present guide is the translation of the guide prepared by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds adapted to the Greek reality.
