- We present the Egyptian vulture at the EuroBirdWatch 2013
Provadia, Ruse and Madzharovo will join in the celebration of the EuroBirdWatch 2013.
‘Flying away’ screening and a presentation about the Egyptian Vulture will be held before students from the Professional School of Agriculture ‘Earth’ in Provadia on October 4th.
On 5th and 6th October the Nature conservation center "Eastern Rhodopes" will welcome everyone to attend a lecture on the migration of Egyptian Vultures across Southern Turkey and to participate in a birdwatching tour in Madzharovo Protected Area. Everyone who wants to experience the wildlife and unique biodiversity in the area can participate. There will be a quiz for the children.
Students will learn about the migration of the Egyptian vulture and will enjoy the popular science film ‘Flying away’.
The celebrations are organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds within the project LIFE +“The Return of the Neophron” and the project “Promoting the Nature Information and Conservation Center in Madzharovo and increasing awareness of the wildlife heritage in the Eastern Rhodopes” supported by “The New Thracian Gold".
The biggest event held by the European partners of BirdLife International celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since 1993 the EuroBirdWatch attracts tens of thousands of participants each year participating in various and diverse activities or just watching birds migrating south. This year 33 partners of BirdLife International in Europe and Central Asia are pleased to invite people to watch birds and learn interesting and curious facts about their migration and the threats they encounter while flying thousands of miles towards warmer countries.
In most of the countries, people will be able to visit information booths, where they will rediscover the fascinating world of birds and will be able to share experiences.
Last year about 70 000 people from 34 countries took part in this event and over 6 million birds were observed.
The EuroBirdWatch is coordinated at international level by the Slovak Ornithological Society (BirdLife Slovakia) in 2013. The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds is coordinator of the initiative in Bulgaria.
