More than one hundred people visited Nature Conservation center “Eastern Rhodopes” to celebrate the International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD). The interest of the small kids and their parents was aroused by the free film screenings and lectures which presented the life of vultures, threats they face and the undertaken conservation efforts. Armed with rubbers, colour pencils and many smiles, kids were drawing their favorite vulture species and receiving many presents. But the most memorable moment for the visitors was when they saw for the first time the silhouettes of the Griffon and Egyptian vultures flying over the rocky edges in Arda river valley. They were charming the curious visitors not only with their impressive size but also with their flight abilities and magnificent presence. At the end of the day people were leaving but only to come back again next year with their friends and relatives because the nature of Madzharovo and vultures has touched everyone’s heart. Among the numerous wishes in the guest book of the center one young environmentalist wrote “I wish that there will be more vultures in Bulgaria in future”!
We want to express our gratitude to all those people who have supported us through the years and still support us in our endless efforts to save the last vultures in Bulgaria.
The celebration is organised within the project “Promoting the Nature Information and Conservation Center in Madzharovo and increasing awareness of the wildlife heritage in the Eastern Rhodopes” with the support of “New Thracian Gold” project in collaboration  with the project “The Return of the Neophron” (LIFE 10 NAT/BG/000152).
