As every summer time, on 18th of August, the WWF team participates in a fair in place called Chilia which is close to Greek and Bulgarian border. Residents of Rhodope mountain villages, from both Bulgaria and Greece, meet here to celebrate some traditional customs inherited from their forefathers. Most of them are related to the nature, being farmers or livestock breeders. We informed as many people we could about the vulture conservation, especially the Egyptian vulture issue. Many of them, particularly elderly asked us what has happened with "Akbaba", because there are so few birds left and yet few years ago they could observed the Egyptian vultures more often and in higher numbers. It is depressing that younger generation seems not to have very often an opportunity to meet this amazing bird. People are concerned about the Egyptian vulture future, as the species was always related to their home grounds and every spring they were waiting for it to bring them happiness and fruitful summer. We made an appointment in next year and we promised them that we are going to share with them news about the Egyptian vultures.
