Start of the nest guarding of Egyptian vultures in Bulgaria for 2012

12.04.2012

The nest guarding of the Egyptian vultures started with the return of the first vultures from their wintering grounds. This activity is implemented within the frames of the LIFE+ project „The return of the Neophron“ funded by the European Commission and co-financed by the „A.G. Leventis“ foundation. The nest guarding is aiming to decrease the disturbance on the nests and to prevent from nest robberies.

For the first time, besides the nest guardians, the nest protection will be provided by specialized equipment. The BSPB is coordinating the nest guarding with the local communities and the regional institutions (the Regional Inspections of Environment and Waters, the Police, etc.) aiming to assure the after-LIFE+ project sustainability of this activity.
