For two weeks in October the field team of the LIFE+ project "The Return of the Neophron" mapped the dangerous poles in six areas with nests of Egyptian Vultures in Northern Bulgaria. The team went over 3,000 kilometers on the roads in the country to describe every electric pole in the territories of the endangered species. A total of 2900 poles were marked, the total length of the line is more than 200 km.
During the field work more than 30 birds were found dead. Among the most frequent victims of the electric network are White Storks, Crows, various songbirds and Buzzards. We found also some endangered species like Roller, Black Stork and Owl.
Since the launch of this activity marking  we mapped 3500 electricity poles and walked over 270 kilometers along the lines of distribution networks in the Eastern Rhodopes and northern Bulgaria.
The mapping of the Eastern Rhodopes will continue next year.
