The collected food remains

In September and October within  the LIFE+ project  "The Return of the Neophron" we collected food remains from 15 nests of Egyptian Vultures in Bulgaria. The aim of the work is to study the food type and to assess  the nutritional base. In food remains can be found many different species, including amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The debris shell of turtles and hedgehogs are prevalent.
For Egyptian vultures, and also for the people, the safe is food that does not contain antibiotics, pesticides and other harmful substances. Clean food is essential for the health and the life of the Egyptian vulture. That is why  in 2012 we provided additional safe food by feeding with small amounts of meat for nine couples.
