• European Canine Team Workshop in Meteora

Yesterday, the 15^th of October, HOS participated in a workshop organized by the NGO Arcturos in Kalampaka, (Meteora, Central Greece). The workshop consisted of a demonstration of the European Canine Team in action and a series of presentations and was organized within the framework of the LIFE project "Life against poison" (LIFE09 NAT/ES/000533). The attendees, belonging to different entities such as Foresty Service, management bodies from protected areas, environmental NGOs, etc, were able to see how the European Canine Team works in the field and how the dogs are able to find hidden poisoned baits. After this, HOS gave a presentation of "The return of the Neophron" LIFE project, detailing the actions implemented in the area and their results. Lastly, a long and fruitful discussion took place debating about the illegal use of poison baits and the effectiveness in the fight against poison of a tool such as the European Canine Team.

Within the framework of the present LIFE project for the Egyptian vulture, HOS is implementing a pilot action in the region of Ipiros which addresses the conflict of poison in its different facets by means of creating a network of local key stakeholders opposed to the use of poison.
