- BSPB participated on the Raptors MoU 2012 meeting in Abu Dhabi
The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB / BirdLife Bulgaria) took part in the Raptors MoU meeting, in relation to the Convention of Migratory Species, on 9-11.12.2012 in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and aimed to bring together representatives from the 40 Signatories and to review the implementation of the Action Plan contained within the Raptors MoU and to identify the future policies and priorities for this important international conservation agreement. The meeting also provides the chance for relevant inter-governmental organisations, interested non-signatory Range States, non-governmental and private sector organisations, to attend as observers, in order to promote cooperative efforts for the conservation of African-Eurasian migratory birds of prey and their habitats.
BSPB participated with two presentations: the one „Conservation of the Egyptian Vulture along the Eastern Mediterranean migration flyway: challenges at trans-continental level” showed detailed results from the LIF+ project “The Return of the Neophron” (LIFE10 NAT/BG/000152), funded by the European Commission and “A. G. Leventis” foundation, and the other - “Capacity Building to Support Migratory Egyptian Vultures from the Western Palearctic on their Wintering Grounds in Ethiopia, Sudan and Chad”, showed the concept, schedule and the expected results from a recently funded from UNEP project (SSFA/CMSAD/2012/002).
The meeting helped for establishing important contacts with other countries and organizations in terms of the forthcoming training seminar in Ethiopia for research and conservation of Egyptian vultures and in relation of the development of Egyptian Vulture Flyway Action Plan under the LIFE+ project.
