Platforms construction for the individual supplementary feeding near the nests

26.03.2012

Three platforms have been constructed on mature oak trees where food will be placed near three nests. This activity is included in the LIFE project with the title: Pilot the establishment of national schemes for targeted individual supplementary feeding methodology. This action must be applied to nests not adjacent to the vulture’s feeding station, so we selected two nests in Komsatos valley and one nest in Filiouri valley. The distance between the platform and the nest was selected based on the relief, the visual contact of the point from the nest, the existence of a suitable observation point for recording the success of action and the avoidance of disturbance of the pair. The three platforms are finally about 300, 500 and 1000 meters respectively from the three nests. We wish the pairs to come again to their nests and hopefully with this food assistance to reproduce successfully.
